Natura Network Agreements
Organising at least one Green Days event per year "Our 2nd junior ranger camp in Tatra National Park was thanks to programme on 24 August 2006 (Natura 2000) registered as “Green Days” event. One of the presentations was about the idea of Natura 2000. We explained everything on Natura 2000 and related issues. Children were learnt on sense and mision of the European Network of Protected Areas.
We have also organized “Welcome Day” (within European Day of Parks) when the Administration of Tatra National Park was opened to the public. That even was related with showing of movies and presentations about National Park where issue of NATURA 2000 was also mentioned and presented."
Promoting Natura 2000 at the local level "“Advisory Board of TATRY National Park Administration” is established with the purpose to help with proper managing and sustainable development of park. Board members are representatives of local stakeholders, farmers, foresters, ... . They meet periodically, at least twice per year to discus actual problems (a meeting within science-research conference during “Weak of Science”, …).
While writing our professional reports we always mention issue of NATURA 2000 within solving of certain concerns. We put into our reports all requirements related with NATURA 2000 and explain why it is so necessary and important.
During personal meeting with locals and stakeholders we propagate the idea of Natura 2000 and give people brochures and materials on it.
Natura 2000 was also disused while process of negotiation of the Bird Area TATRY when we met with locals, land owners and other stakeholders."
Twinning / Networking for knowledge exchange There is a good communication and cooperation with Polish colleagues from other side of Tatra Mountains in the field of fauna, flora, GIS, education, publication etc.. We have common web site "GEO Portal TATRY" (www.geoportaltatry.pl) where close information on both national parks can be found (borders, GIS layers: forest, roads, rivers, ....). Bilingual magazine about both national parks is periodically published. Polish children took part during Junior Ranger Camp. One day of JRC was dedicated to visiting of Polish side of Tatra Mountains where we were joined with polish ranger who told us about their national park. We organize meeting and frequent visits with Polish colleagues to help with dissolving of actual problems in both areas.
Involving stakeholders in the management planning process We have no management plan for our Natura 2000 site yet, not even for area of National Park. Now we are waiting for approving new management plan for national park including new zoning. Within process of preparation of the management plan we have discussed and had many meeting with local stakeholders. We have tried to explain every park’s goal and necessary measures which have to be taken to get these goals. We have listened to stakeholder´s requirements, worries and proposals how to manage our National Park. We answered their questions or comments (in "White Book") and accessible demands were incorporated into proposal of the management plan.
Branding Natura 2000 No because the idea of "branding" is still young in Slovakia. But here is strong promotion and marketing potentials. Local people sell home-made products directly in their villages (subTatra region) or come to tourist and recreation centers. Visitors don’t demand a "labeling" and buy products without any "brand". Locals still consider that process of "branding" of Natura 2000 is ineffective and don’t see any sense of it (just a couple more duties for them).
