Promoting Natura 2000 at the local level | "Actions
to promote Natura 2000 at local level 2003-2004 In connection with implementation of Natura 2000 network in the Czech Republic we arranged several meetings with local representatives and inhabitants to present details of mentioned project. On these meetings we discussed borders of pSCI and SPA Krkonos¹e, amendment of environmental law, new perspectives for locality, foreign examples etc. These meetings were the first step in frame of Natura 2000 project in our region. 2005-2006 We prepared various meetings and workshops which were target to topic “The Krkonos¹e mts. and Natura 2000”. The workshops have usually included lectures, discussions and various activities on field. These workshops were modified for different groups of participants, e.g. voluntary rangers, primary schools teachers, university students, scholars. Examples: 1) National Park Day (24. 5. 2005): • lectures for older scholars of primary schools with discussion about Natura 2000 sites in CR; focused on pSCI and SPA Krkonos¹e • workshop for younger scholars of primary schools aimed to Natura 2000 sites and local products 2) Summer workshop “Natura 2000” in cooperation with Centre for environmental education and ethics Ry´chory (3. 8. 2005): • focused on scholars of primary schools • lectures about main principles of EU project “Natura 2000 network”; as an example were presented pSCI and SPA Krkonos¹e • opened-air workshop – cognition of ecological function of selected habitats, mapping of habitats, plant species, designed of borders for protected sites etc. 3) EU Green Enforce Informal Network - the first expert meeting in the Czech Republic (10. – 12. 5. 2006): • one of the aims of this meeting has been identification of the role of inspection and enforcement bodies within nature conservation and forest protection in the member states and candidate countries as well as to discuss issues related to the implementation of the Natura 2000 network • Krkonos¹e National Park and Nature Reserve of “Prachovské skály” were chosen as two examples of Natura 2000 sites in CR for mentioned workshop • workshop has been focused on the presentation of natural values and organization of nature protection within the Krkonos¹e National Park with the field trip in Krkonos¹e - Natura 2000 site • the main project coordinator was the Czech Environmental Inspectorate and on this workshop participated representatives from more than 20 countries" |
Involving local stakeholders in the management planning process - creating a local area partnership | Our management plan does not actively involve local stakeholders. Local stakeholders can ask for grants on appropriate Ministries or Agencies in CR. We actively cooperate with these establishments and offer information service to local stakeholders. |
Branding Natura 2000 | Since October 2005, products that are made in the areas of Krkonos¹e, S¹umava and Beskydy can apply for a special brand which guarantees their origin from the given area. Each of the regions has its own logo with the text: „Krkonos¹e – original product“, „S¹umava – original product“, and „Made in Beskydy“. Branding (certification) of local products will help to draw attention to a concrete protected area within the Natura 2000 Network and to benefit from its advantages which are, undoubtedly, healthier environment, higher-quality and more careful area management. This is valued particularly by tourists, but also by local people who, in addition to the above benefits, will be able to support “their” local producer. Certification would help to compete imported products with a doubtful mark of origin. Certified products will be promoted together in tourism, at local fairs, markets and retail. The following groups of products will be certified particularly: a) Foodstuff and agrarian products (milk, cheese, meat, bread, fruit and vegetables, wine, beer and other drinks, honey etc.); b) Handicrafts and art products (products made of wood, straw, glass, paper, metal, ceramic, as well as jewellery, gifts etc.); c) Nature products (mineral water, forest fruit, tea, medicinal herbs, wood, compost etc.). All of the three areas where local branding is carried out come under the Natura 2000 Network for their significant parts. The main project coordinator is the Regional Environmental Center Czech Republic (REC C¹R). In the regions, new associations arise (as Local Action Groups) which will manage the whole system of local products branding. For more details contact please Mr. Radek Drahny´: rdrahny@krnap.cz |
